O'S GET RELIEVER GUILMET FROM CLEVELAND

The Baltimore Orioles acquired pitcher Preston Guilmet from the Cleveland Indians for outfielder Torsten Boss.

What does it give the Baltimore Orioles
With their bullpen already struggling in the wake of moving closer {P Jim Johnson} during the off-season, the Orioles may need Guilmet sometime soon this season. The righty has been a successful late-inning reliever in the minors for the past few years (showing an ability to close out games) and he's the right age (26) to possibly put it all together this year. In a corresponding move, the O's put outfielder {P Nolan Reimold} on the 60-day DL to make room on their 40-man roster for Guilmet.

What does it give the Cleveland Guardians
Following a so-so performance during spring training, Guilmet found himself out of Cleveland's plans. It's not a bad dice-roll for them here to parlay Guilmet into a solid (if not stellar) prospect in Boss. The 23-year-old outfielder has some athleticism and plate patience, but he doesn't appear close to being MLB-ready (which is perhaps why Boss isn't on his new squad's 40-man roster).

Fantasy impact
Guilmet has some deep sleeper appeal for later this season, since he's shown the ability to close out games (and the late-inning situation is far from settled in Baltimore). Also for the Orioles, moving Reimold to the 60-day DL (due to ongoing neck issues) probably ensures fairly regular playing time for the underwhelming {P David Lough} in left field. On the Cleveland side of this deal, there's no fantasy impact for anytime soon since Boss will probably be in the lower minors for a while.
