TWINS ADD INFIELD DEPTH WITH NUNEZ
The Minnesota Twins acquired infielder Eduardo Nunez from the New York Yankees for pitcher Miguel Sulbaran.
What does it give the Minnesota Twins
In Nunez, the Twins get a pretty good infielder for depth purposes. With current shortstop {P Pedro Florimon} struggling at the dish, and backup {P Jason Bartlett} on the 15-day disabled list, Nunez could emerge sooner rather than later. For now, Minnesota has optioned him to Triple-A Rochester. Nunez doesn't have Florimon's skill and flair on defense, but he's a far better hitter.
What does it give the New York Yankees
The Yankees had designated Nunez for assignment, after he lost his utility role to impressive rookie {P Yangervis Solarte}, so they were able to get something for him in the form of left-handed pitching prospect Sulbaran. The latter is diminutive but he has some swing-and-miss ability and the versatility to pitch as either a starter or reliever. He's still several years away from MLB.
Fantasy impact
Nunez may have sneaky-good fantasy upside as a Twin, mainly because the club is not settled in the infield. If they need an infusion of offense at short, Nunez could get the call. Also, he can back up both third baseman {P Trevor Plouffe} and second baseman {P Brian Dozier}, too. Sulbaran is still a long way from fantasy radar status.
