O'S ACQUIRE CATCHER HUNDLEY

The Baltimore Orioles acquired catcher Nick Hundley and cash from the San Diego Padres for pitcher Troy Patton.

What does it give the Baltimore Orioles
The Orioles needed more catching depth due to the untimely injury to No. 1 backstop {P Matt Wieters}, whose elbow issue may require Tommy John surgery. Even if Wieters doesn't have the surgery, he's going to be out for some time to come. Therefore, Hundley should help in the short term. He'll likely share time with {P Steve Clevenger} during Wieters' absence.

What does it give the San Diego Padres
With {P Yasmani Grandal} and {P Rene Rivera} already on the 25-man roster, plus top prospect {P Austin Hedges} knocking on the door, the Padres could afford to move out a catcher at this time. So, Hundley was moved for a left-handed reliever--which was a need for San Diego. The Padres will now use two lefties--{P Alex Torres} and Patton--out of the bullpen.

Fantasy impact
Neither Hundley nor Patton have a lot of fantasy value at this point. Hundley could be a decent power source as he moves from spacious PETCO Park in San Diego to homer-friendly Camden Yards in Baltimore, but he's not a very good hitter overall. Patton will mostly be a situational lefty with the Pads.
