MIAMI ADDS PITCHER MORRIS FOR A PICK
The Miami Marlins acquired pitcher Bryan Morris from the Pittsburgh Pirates for a competitive balance round A draft pick (No. 39 overall) in 2014.
What does it give the Miami Marlins
The Marlins are still in the thick of the NL East race, and Morris brings a dependable righty relief arm to a bullpen in need of more depth. Morris is a former top prospect who hasn't lived up to his billing, but he has nonetheless developed into a solid middle reliever. He won't overpower anyone but he will do a quality job and give the rest of Miami's 'pen more rest.
What does it give the Pittsburgh Pirates
The Pirates clearly have designs on one or more prospects early in this week's MLB Draft, and they move a solid (but not essential) arm in Morris to get the pick they covet. Pittsburgh has a need for more quality infielder prospects, so perhaps they'll be targeting one at No. 39 overall. The Bucs don't select until No. 24 overall, so this at least gives them two picks in the top 40.
Fantasy impact
Morris is not a very fantasy-worth pitcher (since he isn't a top strikeout guy or closer candidate) but he will get the odd hold and keep his ERA respectable. There's no fantasy fallout from the Pirates' side of this swap, although they may land a keeper type with the No. 39 overall pick.
