D'BACKS MOVE McCARTHY TO NYY FOR NUNO

The New York Yankees acquired pitcher Brandon McCarthy and cash from the Arizona Diamondbacks for pitcher Vidal Nuno.

What does it give the New York Yankees
McCarthy brings veteran starting pitching depth to New York. The big righty's ERA was not good with Arizona this season (5.01) but he still posted good strikeout numbers with not many walks, so there are plenty of reasons to believe he can bounce back in the American League. The Yanks may need him as they push for a playoff spot in the tight AL East.

What does it give the Arizona Diamondbacks
The D'backs are tied for the fewest wins in the National League so far, making this a wise salary dump for them. McCarthy was set to make several million dollars the rest of this season, and while they send some cash along with him to New York this is all about saving money for the Diamondbacks. Nuno is a still-young (26) lefty with some untapped potential and the ability to either start or relieve.

Fantasy impact
McCarthy's fantasy value may get a boost in New York, and he could be seen as a solid fantasy starting pitching option the rest of the way. His arrival may likely mean struggling young starter {P Chase Whitley} will be on a shorter leash. In Arizona, Nuno doesn't have much fantasy value at all right now, but he does have some sleeper appeal for next season if he pitches well down the stretch this season.
