YANKEES ADD VERSATILE VETERAN PRADO

The New York Yankees acquired infielder/outfielder Martin Prado from the Arizona Diamondbacks for first baseman/outfielder Peter O'Brien and a player to be named later.

What does it give the New York Yankees
New York continues to add small but important pieces here. Prado was Arizona's starting third baseman, but he can play all over the infield as well as the outfield corners. Perhaps he'll play regularly in right field with the Yankees, since that may be their biggest hole at present time. He should also see time at both second and third. He is a candidate to be bat second NEXT season, when {P Derek Jeter} is retired.

What does it give the Arizona Diamondbacks
The Diamondbacks landed a pretty good prospect in O'Brien, a top power hitter in the minor leagues. He may not be good enough to stick behind the plate, but his power should play anywhere in the lineup. He's 23 years old, so there may be time to improve his defensive skills. Arizona did well here to land a power-hitting prospect in O'Brien for a veteran infielder, something they had an abundance of.

Fantasy impact
O'Brien should have already been on the fantasy radar in keeper leagues, due to his big-time power at the catching position. That value goes up now that he's with Arizona, since he has fewer obstacles in his way. As for Prado, his value should remain the same as a Yankee. He may play less and in a park that's more custom-built for left-handed hitters, but he could get a jolt from playing in a pennant race.
