ANGELS ADD VETERAN RELIEVER PESTANO

The Los Angeles Angels acquired pitcher Vinnie Pestano from the Cleveland Indians for pitcher Mike Clevinger.

What does it give the Los Angeles Angels
The Angels are still firmly in the chase for the AL West title, and their bullpen has been a real adventure this year. As they continue to mix, match and scramble for depth in the 'pen, Pestano might prove to be a valued addition down the stretch (and in the playoffs, if the Angels get there). Pestano is currently at Triple-A, but with the exception of a few too many walks he's pitching well. Don't be surprised if he's called up soon.

What does it give the Cleveland Guardians
Hovering around .500, the Tribe are still in the Wild Card hunt but the team obviously didn't have Pestano in their short- or long-term plans. He struggled with his command this season after previously being a solid member of Cleveland's bullpen, and the team has called up middle man {P=6859 C.C. Lee} to fill the void. Clevinger is a big guy with solid strikeout ability, but like Pestano he needs to rein in his command. Clevinger is still at the Single-A level, so he won't help Cleveland anytime soon.

Fantasy impact
Pestano has some deep sleeper potential for teams needing holds down the stretch (assuming he gets called up by the Angels some time the rest of the way). That said, {P Huston Street} is entrenched as L.A.'s closer so there isn't much upside here. Clevinger is worth keeping in mind for future seasons, but as mentioned he needs to prove himself significantly more in the minors before getting a major-league opportunity.
