ANGELS ADD DEPTH WITH BECKHAM

The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim acquired infielder Gordon Beckham from the Chicago White Sox for a player to be named later.

What does it give the Los Angeles Angels
Obviously, the Angels already have a quality second baseman in {P Howie Kendrick}, so playing time may be scarce for Beckham down the stretch. That said, he will provide solid depth at the position and also back up third baseman {P David Freese}. Furthermore, the Halos may try Beckham in the outfield (or even have him serve as the DH) if need be. The Angels will most likely part ways with Beckham at season's end, as this was mostly a move geared towards the postseason.

What does it give the Chicago White Sox
It took some time, but the White Sox finally found a taker for veteran Beckham. Now, Chicago will spend the final month of the 2014 campaign evaluating some of their middle infielders for next year. First up will probably be {P Carlos Sanchez}. They also have utility man {P Leury Garcia} and may also recall {P Marcus Semien} when rosters expand in September. The team's potential second baseman of the future, {P Micah Johnson}, has been shut down in the minors (hamstring).

Fantasy impact
Abort! Abort! If fantasy leaguers are still holding onto Beckham as their starter at second base, it's time to seek out a new option. He won't play regularly anymore. Sanchez could be a nice option to replace Beckham on fantasy rosters, since he's expected to receive a decent look down the stretch. Long term, Johnson's value is still fairly high despite his late-season injury setback. Semien is also a sleeper here.
