BUCS ADD DEPTH RELIEVER SCAHILL FROM ROX

The Pittsburgh Pirates acquired pitcher Rob Scahill from the Colorado Rockies for pitcher Shane Carle.

What does it give the Pittsburgh Pirates
In Scahill, the Pirates get a 27-year-old right-hander with 41 career appearances (all as a reliever) in the National League, including 12 with the Rockies this past season. Walks were a problem for him in '14 (9 BB in just 15 IP), but Scahill does have some appeal as a late-blooming reliever in the big leagues.

What does it give the Colorado Rockies
As for Carle, he's four years younger than Scahill and more of a starting pitching prospect at this stage of his development. His numbers at high Single-A Bradenton weren't great in '14 (10 GS, 2-3, 3.60 ERA, 55 hits, 13 BB, 36 K in 55 IP), but he has a projectable 6-4 frame and some upside. This is a decent pickup for the Rockies.

Fantasy impact
Scahill is not likely to make an impact in the Pirates' bullpen in 2015, but with relievers you never really know for sure. That said, Carle is the pitcher with more fantasy upside down the road. Neither Scahill nor Carle is expected to make much of a fantasy impact in '15, though.
