DODGERS ADD MORE PITCHING DEPTH
The Los Angeles Dodgers acquired pitcher Juan Nicasio from the Colorado Rockies for a player to be named later.
What does it give the Los Angeles Dodgers
The Dodgers have been busy so far in the off-season stockpiling depth options for the starting rotation. Nicasio is the latest acquisition, and he's a familiar one since he pitched within the National League West division. He's a potential candidate for the No. 5 spot in the rotation for 2015, but more likely to serve a long man role out of the bullpen (with the ability to spot-start).
What does it give the Colorado Rockies
The Rockies decided to part ways with the 28-year-old Dominican right-hander following a struggling 2014 campaign (5.38 ERA). The team used Nicasio both as a starter and reliever this past season, so they'll audition new arms to take over a similar role in '15. In the meantime, the Rox added either a middling prospect or some cash in return for Nicasio.
Fantasy impact
Nicasio won't have a lot of fantasy value pitching for the Dodgers in 2015, assuming he even makes the club out of spring training. He's not a big strikeout artist and could wind up pitching in long relief. There are far better options in fantasy baseball.
