RAYS SEND SEAN RODRIGUEZ TO PITTSBURGH

The Pittsburgh Pirates acquired outfielder/infielder Sean Rodriguez from the Tampa Bay Rays for a player to be named later.

What does it give the Pittsburgh Pirates
In Rodriguez, the Pirates land a very accomplished utility man who can play all positions. He is not likely to play every day with his new team but will be invaluable coming off the bench. He has a little speed and a little power, too, so there should be stretches during the 2015 season when he plays regularly.

What does it give the Tampa Bay Rays
The Rays had designated Rodriguez for assignment, so they at least were able to secure assets for him. For the '15 campaign, the Rays have other options to serve a utility role off the bench--namely {R Nick Franklin}, {R Logan Forsythe}, {R Hak-Ju Lee} and perhaps even {R Tim Beckham}.

Fantasy impact
Rodriguez needs to adjust to the move to the National League, but he might see a spike in fantasy value in Pittsburgh. He's a dark horse heading into 2015.
