FISH GET GORDON IN BLOCKBUSTER WITH LA

The Miami Marlins acquired second baseman Dee Gordon, pitcher Dan Haren, infielder Miguel Rojas and cash from the Los Angeles Dodgers for pitcher Andrew Heaney, infielder/outfielder Enrique Hernandez, pitcher Chris Hatcher and catcher Austin Barnes.

What does it give the Miami Marlins
This is truly a blockbuster, and a deal that will likely be scrutinized by both sides for some time to come. For the Marlins, they get a premier base-stealer in Gordon who should bat leadoff and play every day at second base (a problem spot for Miami in 2014). They also get Haren, who may or may not decide to report to the Marlins and was contemplating retirement earlier in the off-season. It's being reported that the cash considerations in this trade sees the Dodgers paying ALL of Gordon and Haren's salaries, which is a huge part of this deal. In Rojas, the Fish get a good glove who can back up all over the infield.

What does it give the Los Angeles Dodgers
The Dodgers are reshaping their club in the mold new team President of Baseball Operations Andrew Friedman wants. The key to the deal for the Dodgers was Heaney, a very promising left-handed pitching prospect who was flipped to the crosstown-rival Angels in a separate trade for veteran second baseman {P Howie Kendrick}. Hernandez is a quality utility man who should back up all over the field in '15, while Hatcher is a decent arm out of the bullpen. Lastly, local product Barnes is an intriguing offensive catcher with an outside chance to become the team's backup at some point in '15. This was a very interesting deal, overall.

Fantasy impact
Clearly, the Dodgers didn't feel Gordon could repeat his breakout '14 campaign. However, his chances may have improved moving to Miami, where he'll set the table for one of the top sluggers in baseball: {P Giancarlo Stanton}. Haren provides starting pitching depth to the Marlins, provided he still wants to pitch. He's a very risky fantasy player in 2015. The other players involved in this deal have minimal fantasy value, aside from Heaney (who's already no longer Dodgers property).
