RED SOX GET SPRUILL FROM ARIZONA

The Boston Red Sox acquired pitcher Zeke Spruill from the Arizona Diamondbacks for pitcher Myles Smith.

What does it give the Boston Red Sox
The Red Sox are overhauling their pitching staff, so the 25-year old might get a shot at earning a spot on the 25-man roster during spring training. Spruill can both start or relieve but is far more likely to become a middle reliever in Beantown.

What does it give the Arizona Diamondbacks
Since the D'backs had designated Spruill for assignment earlier in the off-season, they did well to land a prospect in return. The 22-year-old Smith really struggled at low Single-A Greenville in 2014 but is still young enough to turn things around.

Fantasy impact
Spruill's fantasy value will likely decrease as a member of the Red Sox, as his chances of starting or playing a prominent bullpen role have diminished. As for Smith, he needs to prove he can pitch better in A-ball before becoming a fantasy factor for the future.
