RANGERS ADD C DEPTH WITH CORPORAN

The Texas Rangers acquired catcher Carlos Corporan from the Houston Astros for pitcher Akeem Bostick.

What does it give the Texas Rangers
The Rangers got some catching depth here with switch-hitting Corporan, who should compete for a roster spot in spring training. Texas has {P Robinson Chirinos} as the likely starting catcher and youngsters {P Tomas Telis} and {P Jorge Alfaro}--whom they like a lot. So the 31-year-old Corporan is viewed as a stopgap measure, though a decent one.

What does it give the Houston Astros
The Astros have been busy collecting catchers this off-season--landing both {P Hank Conger} from the Angels and {P Evan Gattis} from the Braves in separate deals. They also still have {P Jason Castro} and prospect {P Max Stassi}, so Corporan was designated for assignment. Bostick is 19 years old and has plenty of time to develop. Good pickup by Houston here.

Fantasy impact
Corporan's fantasy value is minimal, as he's expected to serve as a backup (or possibly even third string) with the Rangers. Conger's value improves slightly after this deal, while Telis may be adversely affected by Corporan's arrival.
