BRAVES GET CAHILL FROM ARIZONA

The Atlanta Braves acquired pitcher Trevor Cahill and cash from the Arizona Diamondbacks for outfielder Josh Elander.

What does it give the Atlanta Braves
This deal was necessary for the Braves due to the injury to projected starter {P Mike Minor}, as well as a general lack of depth in the rotation. It also gives some of Atlanta's top pitching prospects more time to fully develop.

What does it give the Arizona Diamondbacks
For the D'backs, this deal is mostly about moving Cahill in order to open up a spot in the rotation for top prospect {P Archie Bradley}, who now becomes the team's fifth starter to open 2015. As for Elander, he's a long-range project at this point.

Fantasy impact
Cahill's fantasy value remains steady here, as neither the D'backs nor the Braves look like contenders in 2015. That said, the move to Atlanta may revive him. The biggest winner here is clearly Bradley, whose long-range fantasy value is very high (while his '15 prognosis needs to be tempered a tad). The biggest loser after this deal will likely be {P Eric Stults}...whose spot in Atlanta's rotation now belongs to Cahill.
