NATIONALS ADD RIGHT-HANDER CARPENTER
The Washington Nationals acquired pitcher David Carpenter from the New York Yankees for infielder Tony Renda.
What does it give the Washington Nationals
The Nationals hope a return to the National League East division will help Carpenter get his mojo back, after struggling with the Yankees earlier this season. Carpenter was a solid bullpen arm for the Atlanta Braves in both 2013 and 2014, so there is hope of a comeback here.
What does it give the New York Yankees
The Yankees had designated Carpenter for assignment earlier, so at least they were able to parlay that asset into a younger, future asset in Renda. That said, Renda doesn't have much upside either but might be able to replace the likes of Rob Refsnyder and/or Jose Pirela--two infielders who should be recalled at some point.
Fantasy impact
There isn't a lot of fantasy value in this deal, as Carpenter has a long way to go before becoming a source of saves or holds in D.C. As for Renda, he has virtually no fantasy value at this time.
