METS LAND RELIEVER CLIPPARD FROM THE A'S
The New York Mets acquired pitcher Tyler Clippard and cash from the Oakland Athletics for pitcher Casey Meisner.
What does it give the New York Mets
In Clippard, the Mets land Oakland's closer to give New York more options in the late innings. Jeurys Familia is expected to remain the Mets' closer for now, but Clippard should become a staple in the eighth inning (ahead of Jenrry Mejia and Bobby Parnell).
What does it give the Oakland Athletics
For the A's, this was about salvaging something for Clippard--acquired from Washington in the off-season for infielder Yunel Escobar. In Meisner, Oakland receives a very projectable right-hander with plenty of upside (he's only 20). But he's several years away.
Fantasy impact
Clippard obviously loses some fantasy value going from the closer in Oakland to the main setup man in Queens. However, that value could turn around once again if he manages to move ahead of Familia with the Mets. As for Meisner, he is still a very raw project but definitely a pitcher to place on the keeper-league radar.
