WASHINGTON GETS VET CLOSER PAPELBON

The Washington Nationals acquired pitcher Jonathan Papelbon and cash considerations from the Philadelphia Phillies for pitcher Nick Pivetta.

What does it give the Washington Nationals
The Nationals already had closer Drew Storen (29 saves) but they decided to add Papelbon anyway. The latter is expected to do the bulk of the closing for Washington moving forward, though Storen may also see a few save chances here and there.

What does it give the Philadelphia Phillies
The rebuilding plan continues in Philadelphia, with Papelbon being just the latest veteran to fly the coop. In Pivetta, the Phillies land a quality starting pitching prospect who has a chance to reach Philly in a year's time. This was a good deal for the Phils.

Fantasy impact
Papelbon should see greater save opportunities in Washington, though Storen's presence looms. Pivetta is a quality pitching prospect who should be on the fantasy radar. He has plenty of keeper-league appeal.
