BUCS ADD VETERAN RELIEVER SORIA
The Pittsburgh Pirates acquired pitcher Joakim Soria from the Detroit Tigers for shortstop JaCoby Jones.
What does it give the Pittsburgh Pirates
The Pirates are contending in the National League Central division, so any addition for the stretch drive should be considered a positive move at this point. Soria, who was serving as Detroit's closer, will likely set up Mark Melancon in Pittsburgh.
What does it give the Detroit Tigers
The Tigers decided to become sellers at the last minute, so they've now shipped out their ace starter (David Price) and closer (Soria). In Jones, they get a toolsy offensive catalyst type who can play both shortstop and center field. He'll remain in the minors.
Fantasy impact
For Soria, this move destroys his fantasy value in leagues that do not count holds. He could get save chances should anything happen to Melancon, however. Jones is an intriguing fantasy option for the future who should now be on the radar. With the Tigers, he is most likely to end up in center field down the road.
