CARDINALS LAND VETERAN RELIEVER BROXTON

The St. Louis Cardinals acquired pitcher Jonathan Broxton and cash from the Milwaukee Brewers for outfielder Malik Collymore.

What does it give the St. Louis Cardinals
The Cardinals reached out for another quality reliever in Broxton, who will add to what they already have out of the 'pen: closer Trevor Rosenthal, lefty Kevin Siegriest and Marlins former closer Steve Cishek. Broxton figures to pitch in middle relief with St. Louis.

What does it give the Milwaukee Brewers
The Brewers were happy to pay a bit of cash to unload Broxton, since they aren't going to win anything this year. Milwaukee will take a flier on toolsy Collymore, a converted second baseman now playing in the outfield. He's a bit of a feast-or-famine prospect that the Brew Crew are gambling on.

Fantasy impact
Broxton's fantasy value, which already wasn't great, should be even worse moving to a deep, talented team such as the Cardinals. He's probably the fourth option for saves now. As for Collymore, he has some upside but needs to reestablish himself (now as an outfielder).
