ORIOLES ACQUIRE OUTFIELDER PARRA
The Baltimore Orioles acquired outfielder Gerardo Parra from the Milwaukee Brewers for pitcher Zach Davies.
What does it give the Baltimore Orioles
The Orioles had a need for an outfielder, preferably someone who could hit near the top of the batting order, so adding Parra at this time makes a lot of sense. He might be used as a leadoff man and could play right field in Baltimore (which would allow Chris Davis to move back to first base). Parra can play all three outfield positions and essentially replaces Nick Markakis (who signed with Atlanta as a free agent last winter).
What does it give the Milwaukee Brewers
The Brewers used Parra as their No. 4 outfielder for most of 2015, but he had taken over in left field for Khris Davis due to Parra's great 2015 numbers: .328 batting average, nine home runs, 31 runs batted in, nine stolen bases, 53 runs scored, 24 doubles, five triples. In return, Milwaukee lands a quality pitching prospect in Davies, a diminutive right-hander who can strike plenty of batters out. He's only 22 years old with good upside.
Fantasy impact
Parra's fantasy stock is now rising because he'll get to hit at comfortable Camden Yards, so he should be a strong consideration to be picked up before season's end (if available in leagues). As for Davies, his fantasy stock is of the keeper variety and he now has plenty of it. Don't be surprised to see Davies crack Milwaukee's rotation at some point in 2016.
