METS GET POWER-HITTING OF CESPEDES
The New York Mets acquired outfielder Yoenis Cespedes from the Detroit Tigers for pitchers Michael Fulmer and Luis Cessa.
What does it give the New York Mets
This trade had to be made by the Mets, since they have enough strength in pitching to make the postseason but are severely lacking on offense. Cespedes should provide a spark in the middle of the lineup and could be a major impact player down the stretch.
What does it give the Detroit Tigers
For the Tigers, this move is further proof that they are clearly 'rebooting', as GM Dave Dombrowski suggested earlier in the week. Fulmer is the key to the deal and could be a solid rotation option for Detroit next season. Fulmer may even see action in MLB later this year. Cessa is more of a project at this point.
Fantasy impact
Cespedes should provide the Mets with power, but he may not see as many good pitches to hit away from Detroit. Fulmer has definite fantasy appeal and could be a big leaguer sooner rather than later. Cessa doesn't have much fantasy value.
