DODGERS ACQUIRE VETERAN 2B UTLEY

The Los Angeles Dodgers acquired second baseman Chase Utley from the Philadelphia Phillies for infielder Darnell Sweeney and pitcher John Richy.

What does it give the Los Angeles Dodgers
The Dodgers already have Howie Kendrick at second base but he's currently sidelined due to a hamstring injury. Therefore, left-hand-hitting Utley will take over at the keystone during Kendrick's absence. Upon the latter's return, Utley will probably go to the bench (but could get some time at third base, too).

What does it give the Philadelphia Phillies
This was a necessary move for the Phillies, as Utley was one of the final remnants of their 2008 World Series championship squad. In Sweeney, Philadelphia lands a legitimate candidate to take over at second base for Utley (perhaps even right away). He will also add more speed to the lineup. He has good upside. Richy is also a quality prospect with a good arm and plenty of projection. This was an absolute steal for the Phillies.

Fantasy impact
Utley better have something left in the tank for the Dodgers, because they gave up two quality prospects for him. While Sweeney and Richy see their fantasy stock rise after the deal, Utley's is in decline (especially if he winds up on the bench).
