ROYALS ADD BENCH STRENGTH WITH GOMES

The Kansas City Royals acquired outfielder Jonny Gomes and cash from the Atlanta Braves for infielder Luis Valenzuela.

What does it give the Kansas City Royals
For the Royals, adding Gomes gives them a solid bat off the bench and a decent option against left-handed pitching. He could see a few starts as a corner outfielder down the stretch, as well.

What does it give the Atlanta Braves
Atlanta did well here to dump veteran Gomes (despite retaining some salary) and getting a decent infield prospect in Valenzuela in return. The latter is just 22 years old and may have a future in MLB.

Fantasy impact
Gomes is not a fantasy option as a bench player or platoon outfielder. Meanwhile, Valenzuela has a few years left in his development before arriving in the bigs. So, for now, he is merely on the long-range, keeper radar.
