TIGERS LAND CLOSER K-ROD FROM MILWAUKEE

The Detroit Tigers acquired pitcher Francisco Rodriguez from the Milwaukee Brewers for infielder Javier Betancourt and a player to be named later.

What does it give the Detroit Tigers
In 'K-Rod', the Tigers land a quality veteran closer who can replace the saves lost when the team lost Joe Nathan (40) to Tommy John surgery. Rodriguez is seven years younger than Nathan and just as effective. He should help Detroit.

What does it give the Milwaukee Brewers
The Brewers are not a contending team at present time, so moving veteran closer Rodriguez makes sense at this time. Betancourt is a young middle infielder with some pretty good upside, and the Brew Crew will land another prospect in this deal too.

Fantasy impact
Rodriguez' fantasy value should improve a bit now that he will be pitching for a team with a better offense in Motown. Detroit's Comerica Park should also help keep the ball in the ball park when he pitches. Betancourt is a young keeper candidate who should now definitely be on the fantasy radar. If Milwaukee replaces 'K-Rod' internally, look for Will Smith to become a solid candidate for saves in 2016. He's now a strong fantasy sleeper.
