MARINERS ACQUIRE RELIEVER SCRIBNER

The Seattle Mariners acquired pitcher Evan Scribner from the Oakland Athletics for pitcher Trey Cochran-Gill.

What does it give the Seattle Mariners
The Mariners have a need for middle relievers and setup men, so adding Scribner at this time makes a lot of sense. The 30-year-old right-hander is serviceable and should pitch a lot of inning for Seattle in 2016.

What does it give the Oakland Athletics
For the Athletics, this deal was about landing a potential bullpen arm in Cochran-Gill (who is only 22 years old). He is undersized but has a big arm and late-inning reliever upside. Scribner was deemed expendable.

Fantasy impact
Scribner could see a fair amount of hold opportunities in Seattle but he is unlikely to pitch a lot in the ninth inning. His fantasy value is middling at this point. As for Cochran-Gill, he has some long-range fantasy value but is a few years away from prominence.
