BREW CREW TAKE A CHANCE ON CECCHINI

The Milwaukee Brewers acquired infielder Garin Cecchini from the Boston Red Sox for cash.

What does it give the Milwaukee Brewers
This is a good gamble for the Brewers, who are particularly weak at the hot corner following the departure (and eventual retirement) of Aramis Ramirez. Cecchini is a patient hitter with some athleticism. A former top prospect with Boston, the 24-year old has a chance to win an everyday job in spring training.

What does it give the Boston Red Sox
The Red Sox had soured on Cecchini long ago, after thinking he might be the team's third baseman of the future. That was no longer the case, so they moved him to a team that had a much greater need at the hot corner. Boston simply wanted to move on from Cecchini, which is why they didn't get much in return.

Fantasy impact
Entering 2016, Cecchini should be considered a fantasy dark horse. He will surely have competition for the starting third base job in Milwaukee but has the talent to win the job outright. Keep an eye on him.
