MARINERS ACQUIRE PITCHER JOE WIELAND
The Seattle Mariners acquired pitcher Joe Wieland from the Los Angeles Dodgers for infielder Erick Mejia.
What does it give the Seattle Mariners
Still only 25 years old, Wieland should provide depth in the Mariners' starting rotation. He'll likely compete for the fifth starter role in spring training, though he might also find himself pitching out of the 'pen.
What does it give the Los Angeles Dodgers
The Dodgers have loaded up with starting pitching depth this off-season, acquiring the likes of Kenta Maeda and Scott Kazmir (plus the re-signing of Brandon Beachy). So, Wieland became expendable.
Fantasy impact
Wieland isn't likely to be much of a fantasy contributor in Seattle because of the team's starter depth. Erick Mejia is several years away from the big leagues, and might not be much of a fantasy factor at that point, either.
