BUCS TAKE A CHANCE ON JESSE BIDDLE

The Pittsburgh Pirates acquired pitcher Jesse Biddle from the Philadelphia Phillies for pitcher Yoervis Medina.

What does it give the Pittsburgh Pirates
The Pirates have a strong track record for resurrecting pitching careers, so they hope Biddle will be the latest successful project. He is not expected to pitch at all in 2016 after undergoing Tommy John surgery in October, but is a good gamble by the Bucs here.

What does it give the Philadelphia Phillies
The Phillies gave up on Biddle a bit prematurely, designating him for assignment a few months after his surgery. In return, Philadelphia gets journeyman Medina (who could earn a job out of the bullpen in spring training). Philly is cutting its losses with Biddle here.

Fantasy impact
Biddle is on the fantasy radar for keeper leagues, but will be a complete non-factor in 2016. Medina, meanwhile, has negligible fantasy value as a potential long man out of the Phillies bullpen.
