RAYS CATCH CORPORAN FROM THE YANKEES

The Tampa Bay Rays acquired catcher Carlos Corporan from the New York Yankees for cash.

What does it give the Tampa Bay Rays
Corporan is a light-hitting, good-catching journeyman receiver who is a solid clubhouse influence. He knows how to succeed as a pro and brings the Rays solid veteran insurance behind new starter Hank Conger. Corporan should additionally help mentor some of Tampa Bay's young catching prospects (such as former first-round pick Justin O'Conner). He'll begin 2016 in the minors.

What does it give the New York Yankees
Austin Romine won the Yankees' top backup backstop job behind veteran starter Brian McCann, while potential future star Gary Sanchez isn't far away from the majors. That all added up to Corporan being the odd man out, so he gets shipped to the Rays here in exchange for cash considerations. This move was done with an eye towards the Yankees' future behind home plate.

Fantasy impact
This move means one less roadblock for Sanchez en route to potential MLB stardom, but that may be years away regardless (since McCann is entrenched behind the plate in New York). Otherwise, this deal has no fantasy impact.
