ANGELS LAND DEPTH INFIELDER RYAN
The Los Angeles Angels acquired infielder Brendan Ryan from the Washington Nationals for a player to be named later or cash considerations.
What does it give the Los Angeles Angels
The Angels needed some infield depth after losing starting shortstop Andrelton Simmons (thumb, 15-day DL), so they swung a minor deal to get journeyman gloveman Ryan. He will probably back up Cliff Pennington until Simmons is activated.
What does it give the Washington Nationals
The Nationals are content with the play of Danny Espinosa at shortstop so far this season, and they also boast Stephen Drew as a backup and promising prospect Trea Turner waiting in the wings. Therefore, they could afford to ship Ryan out at this time.
Fantasy impact
Ryan has always been about his defense, not offense. Therefore, he offers very little fantasy value (if any at all).
