PHILLIES BRING IN UTILITY MAN JIMMY PAREDES

The Philadelphia Phillies acquired outfielder/infielder Jimmy Paredes from the Toronto Blue Jays for cash.

What does it give the Philadelphia Phillies
The Phillies have been surprisingly in contention so far in 2016 but have been slumping lately. They need more offense, so perhaps Paredes can help them in that area. Paredes will probably see time on the outfield corners as well as second and third base.

What does it give the Toronto Blue Jays
The Blue Jays decided to designate Paredes for assignment recently, so they at least were able to get a little cash back in the transaction. The return to health of regular second baseman Devon Travis likely sealed Paredes' fate with Toronto.

Fantasy impact
Paredes has some pop in his bat and can get red-hot at times, so he does have a little short-term fantasy value. He might see a fair amount of at-bats in Philadelphia and the Phillies play in a hitters' park. Therefore, Paredes is worth a shot.
