METS BRING BACK KELLY JOHNSON
The New York Mets acquired infielder/outfielder Kelly Johnson and cash from the Atlanta Braves for pitcher Akeel Morris.
What does it give the New York Mets
The Mets know Johnson very well, as he was part of their club down the stretch and during their run to the World Series last season. With both first baseman Lucas Duda (back, 15-day DL) and third baseman David Wright (neck, 15-day DL) out for an extended period, Johnson should help as corner infield depth.
What does it give the Atlanta Braves
The Braves continue to dump veterans for prospects, since their 2016 season has been a standings disaster so far. Morris is a talented reliever prospect who has yet to put it all together in the high minors. He should get more opportunities moving forward now that he has been dealt to rebuilding Atlanta.
Fantasy impact
Johnson could see a mild spike in (very) short-term fantasy value but will eventually be on the bench when everyone returns healthy to the Mets lineup. As for Morris, he's radar-worthy for keeper leagues but hasn't done enough yet to occupy a roster spot in most fantasy leagues.
