RODNEY LANDS IN MIAMI FOR RELIEF HELP

The Miami Marlins acquired pitcher Fernando Rodney from the San Diego Padres for pitcher Chris Paddack.

What does it give the Miami Marlins
The Marlins decided to acquire the veteran right-hander to provide some bullpen help in the late innings. Rodney, who was being used as San Diego's closer this season, should pitch the eighth inning in Miami--ahead of quality closer A.J. Ramos.

What does it give the San Diego Padres
The Padres are a last-place club this season, so they have decided to ship some of their veterans to contending teams with the hope of rebuilding for the future. Adding Paddack, a 20-year-old right-hander with good stuff, is a solid addition here.

Fantasy impact
Paddack should now be on the long-range, keeper-league radar because he has been dominant at low Single-A Greensboro this season. As for Rodney, he loses some fantasy value moving from the closer role on the Padres to the setup role in Miami.
