'STROS SEND C PROSPECT GONZALEZ TO CHISOX

The Chicago White Sox acquired catcher Alfredo Gonzalez from the Houston Astros for cash.

What does it give the Chicago White Sox
Gonzalez provides Chicago with some organizational depth in the minors. He showed signs of life as a contact hitter in 2015 (batting .321 over three levels), but fell back to earth this season at Double-A. Clearly the White Sox are hoping he can rediscover his batting eye with a change of scenery.

What does it give the Houston Astros
The Astros needed room on the 40-man roster to call up sweet-swinging first baseman A.J. Reed, and Gonzalez became the odd man out. Clearly Houston is hoping Max Stassi--who brings much more of a power bat than Gonzalez did--can eventually emerge as the top backup for starter Jason Castro.

Fantasy impact
Except for helping Stassi's deep sleeper appeal a little, there's no fantasy impact with this deal for this season (and there appears to be little to none for the future either, since Gonzalez looks highly unlikely to provide much with the bat if he ever reaches the majors).
