GIANTS ADD VERSATILE INFIELDER NUNEZ
The San Francisco Giants acquired infielder Eduardo Nunez from the Minnesota Twins for pitcher Adalberto Mejia.
What does it give the San Francisco Giants
This is a solid addition by San Francisco, as Nunez displays great versatility (and a streaky-hot bat). While he is a natural shortstop, look for Nunez to spend a lot of time at third base with the Giants. Once Matt Duffy (Achilles) return from injury, Nunez may also see time in the outfield for San Francisco.
What does it give the Minnesota Twins
The Twins land a solid pitching prospect in Mejia here. He is a 23-year-old left-hander who has already reached Triple-A ball and can become a candidate to join the Minnesota rotation later this season. Mejia is a very good addition for the Twins in exchange for Nunez, a quality role player.
Fantasy impact
Mejia's path to the big leagues short be easier as a member of the Twins organization, so his fantasy stock is on the rise today. He should have already been on the fantasy keeper radar. As for Nunez, he offers solid, short-term fantasy stock as a versatile player who can fill in at several positions on a fantasy roster. The biggest winner after this deal, however, might be infielder Jorge Polanco (who replaces Nunez on the Twins roster and might get regular playing time down the stretch. Polanco is a solid prospect).
