METS ACQUIRE LEFTY SLUGGER JAY BRUCE
The New York Mets acquired outfielder Jay Bruce from the Cincinnati Reds for infielder Dilson Herrera and pitcher Max Wotell.
What does it give the New York Mets
The Mets need a major infusion of run production in their lineup, so adding the National League's RBI leader in Bruce should definitely help (though he may not be able to singlehandedly push New York into the postseason). The Mets did not give up much to get the power-hitting left-handed batter, either, since both Herrera and Wotell were not big pieces for the future.
What does it give the Cincinnati Reds
After reports surfaced that the Reds had injury concerns with outfielder Brandon Nimmo, the Reds and Mets completed this trade anyway with Cincinnati accepting infielder Herrera and pitcher Wotell, instead. Herrera is a candidate to replace veteran second baseman Brandon Phillips, eventually, while Wotell is a solid young left-handed pitching prospect for the long haul.
