RANGERS GET VETERAN BAT CARLOS BELTRAN

The Texas Rangers acquired outfielder/designated hitter Carlos Beltran from the New York Yankees for pitchers Dillon Tate, Erik Swanson and Nick Green.

What does it give the Texas Rangers
This is a very interesting deal because Beltran is 39 years old, while Tate was a first-round draft pick in 2015. Still, the Rangers are comfortable in making this trade because switch-hitting Beltran is still very good. Also, his arrival helps a team with DH issues (Prince Fielder, Josh Hamilton and Shin-Soo Choo are all currently on the disabled list). The Rangers are hoping Beltran can deliver a few key hits for them down the stretch, in the playoffs and possibly in the World Series.

What does it give the New York Yankees
This is a very good acquisition for the Yankees, since Beltran was probably in his final few months in New York anyway (he can become a free agent at the end of 2016). While Tate has not pitched very well in 2016, he still has plenty of upside as a starter (and also as a very high profile as the fourth overall pick in 2015), or as a trade chip for New York. Both Swanson and Green are long-range pitching prospects that add to the Yankees' growing stable for the future.

Fantasy impact
Beltran's short-term fantasy stock may improve dramatically in Texas down the stretch, but his pending free agency status hurts his 2017 stock slightly. As for Tate, he may have more fantasy value as a Yankee but will he remain with the organization over the long haul, or be traded yet again? As for Swanson and Green, they are both pitchers for the long haul. There is no need for them to be on the keeper radar at present time.
