LUCROY HEADS TO THE TEXAS RANGERS

The Texas Rangers acquired catcher Jonathan Lucroy and pitcher Jeremy Jeffress from the Milwaukee Brewers for outfielder Lewis Brinson, pitcher Luis Ortiz and a player to be named later.

What does it give the Texas Rangers
Adding a quality catcher like Lucroy and a power right-handed reliever like Jeffress appears to have filled the final holes in the Rangers' lineup. Lucroy could make a major impact on an already-formidable lineup in Texas, while Jeffress figures to pitch the eighth inning in front of Sam Dyson (while offering plenty of closer insurance in the process). This was a major move by the contending Rangers, who won this deal.

What does it give the Milwaukee Brewers
For the Brewers, getting two quality prospects like Ortiz and Brinson makes this deal fairly palatable (though losing a very good, everyday catcher may hurt for a few years). Ortiz could become a gem of a starter if he can continue to progress, and may be on the fast track to Milwaukee in 2017. Brinson has great upside as a five-tool outfielder but needs more time. They also will receive a third prospect in this trade.

Fantasy impact
Lucroy's fantasy value should get a major spike now that he will be playing in Texas half the time, while Jeffress loses some value in leagues where saves are very important (and in those that do not count holds). Both Ortiz and Brinson have great long-term value, while Tyler Thornburg could become Milwaukee's new closer (although that is not etched in stone for 2017).
