METS REACQUIRE LEFT-HANDER JON NIESE

The New York Mets acquired pitcher Jonathon Niese from the Pittsburgh Pirates for pitcher Antonio Bastardo and cash.

What does it give the New York Mets
This is a depth move for both teams, as Niese is more of a starter who will pitch in long relief and add rotation depth down the stretch. The Mets like Niese and are familiar with him, so that has added value for a team with World Series aspirations.

What does it give the Pittsburgh Pirates
The Pirates know Bastardo well, too, since he pitched for Pittsburgh in 2015. The Mets added a little cash in this deal, which also helps. Bastardo is a pure reliever, so perhaps he can revive his career now that he is back in Pennsylvania.

Fantasy impact
There is nothing to see here, as both Niese and Bastardo are going to pitch in low-leverage situations for their new (old) teams, respectively.
