TIGERS LAND AYBAR FOR SHORTSTOP DEPTH

The Detroit Tigers acquired shortstop Erick Aybar from the Atlanta Braves for infielder/outfielder Mike Aviles and catcher Kade Scivicque.

What does it give the Detroit Tigers
Aybar will provide a little depth at the shortstop position while Jose Iglesias recovers from his current stint on the disabled list (hamstring). Veteran Aybar has had a forgettable 2016 campaign with Atlanta but may be inspired with the move to Detroit. He is clearly a short-term pickup.

What does it give the Atlanta Braves
For the Braves, this deal is more about moving on from Aybar (in order to allow top prospect Dansby Swanson to get his first taste of MLB) than what they received in return. Aviles will provide veteran leadership and a utility man for the rest of 2016, while Scivicque is a depth prospect.

Fantasy impact
There is no fantasy impact after this deal, except for the start of Swanson's MLB career. Swanson is already a very good keeper but he will now get his first big-league audition. If he is somehow available, he should be snapped up quickly in all fantasy formats.
