CHACON FINALLY HEADS TO BRONX

The New York Yankees acquired pitcher Shawn Chacon from the Colorado Rockies for minor-league pitchers Ramon Ramirez and Edwardo Sierra.

What does it give the New York Yankees
In a long-rumored deal, the Yanks continue to stock up on pitching depth and Chacon may be the best of the hurlers they've recently acquired. He missed about a month with a hamstring injury this year but has pitched effectively with the Rockies -- and that's saying something. He should quietly give the Yanks some quality starts down the stretch.

What does it give the Colorado Rockies
Ramirez is no better than a decent pitching prospect who has been all over the place (from Texas to Japan to the Yanks) during his young career. He used a strong curveball and 94-mph heat to nice results at Double-A earlier this year but has struggled since coming up to start at Triple-A. Sierra might be the better prospect acquired in this deal. He's got nasty mid-90s heat and a good fastball. He's tossed some good relief innings at Double-A this year but still needs to work on his command.
