HOLLIDAY

The Oakland Athletics acquired outfielder Matt Holliday from the Colorado Rockies for outfielder Carlos Gonzalez and pitchers Huston Street and Greg Smith.

What does it give the Oakland Athletics
In Holliday, the A's have acquired a run-producing slugger for the middle of the order--something they desperately lacked. He can play either left field or serve as the DH on a team that will count on his home-run prowess in the AL.

What does it give the Colorado Rockies
Gonzalez is the key to the deal from a Rockies perspective, since he has a lot of untapped potential. Street could become the new closer in Colorado, while Smith adds more depth to the rotation. Overall, the Rockies received good value for one of their best players.
