UBALDO JIMENEZ TO THE TRIBE

The Colorado Rockies acquired pitcher Ubaldo Jimenez from the Cleveland Indians for pitchers Alex White, Drew Pomeranz and Joe Gardner, as well as outfielder Matt McBride.

What does it give the Cleveland Guardians
The Tribe are doing unexpectedly well this season and adding a dominant strikeout pitcher in Jimenez helps them push Detroit for the AL Central title. Jimenez has been less than consistent this season but has shown flashes of stardom, and his affordable contract doesn't expire until 2014--so this is also a very good long-term move for Cleveland. They give up a lot of pitching talent for the future here, but Jimenez could prove to be worth it.

What does it give the Colorado Rockies
Colorado is barely still in contention in the NL West and Jimenez took a step backwards this season after breaking out in 2010. White and Pomeranz are both seen as potential future aces, while Gardner has struggled somewhat this season at Double-A after a promising season in 2010. McBride is a talented (but older) prospect hitter who has played catcher, first base, and the outfield in the minors. All except White will likely take awhile before making a big-league splash.
