MARLINS, ROCKIES TRADE INFIELDERS

The Florida Marlins acquired infielder/outfielder Alfredo Amezaga from the Colorado Rockies for infielder Jesus Merchan.

What does it give the Miami Marlins
Some depth in the infield since the Marlins are currently dealing with several injuries to key players (Hanley Ramirez, Omar Infante and Donnie Murphy). The speedy Amezaga suited for only 20 games for the Rockies this season with very limited success. He's an insurance policy more than anything else but should get some playing time due to injuries.

What does it give the Colorado Rockies
Merchan is a light-hitting 30-year-old utility infielder who has never played a single game in the bigs. He'll likely stay in the minors, but might get a shot with the big club as a backup at several positions when rosters expand on September 1st. There isn't much upside here, so this move won't make much of an impact at all.
