BRAVES FIND POTENTIAL CLOSER
The Atlanta Braves acquired pitcher Kyle Farnsworth from the Detroit Tigers for pitcher Roman Colon and minor-league pitcher Zach Miner.
What does it give the Atlanta Braves
The Braves have been without a steady closer ever since John Smoltz returned to the rotation this spring. Farnsworth has always been a flame-throwing late-reliever but it's only this year that the 29-year-old righty has gotten the chance to close some games, and he'll surely get a shot at some saves in Atlanta as well. If so, he could play a large part in whether or not they win a 14th straight division title.
What does it give the Detroit Tigers
In Colon, the Tigers receive a much-needed young arm. Pitching has long been their Achilles heel and Colon is a rookie righty with potential. He's been in and out of the rotation in Atlanta but has good command and a starter's repertoire, so he could be in the Detroit rotation soon. Miner is not a major prospect but has some good stuff. Currently starting at Triple-A, if he can improve his command and aggressiveness in a few years, he could also be pitching for the Tigers soon.
