ROYALS ADD JOSH ANDERSON

The Kansas City Royals acquired outfielder Josh Anderson from the Detroit Tigers for cash.

What does it give the Kansas City Royals
The Royals have been looking for reliable speed at the top of the order since Coco Crisp went down with a rotator cuff injury. They were hoping for some of it from recently-acquired Ryan Freel, and now they will look to Anderson as well for that spark. He is a solid talent, although he has had a tough season all-around since spring training (losing his job in Atlanta and then being demoted by the Tigers).

What does it give the Detroit Tigers
The Tigers were obviously looking for some speed and outfield depth when they picked Anderson up from Atlanta at the start of this season, but he batted just .242 for them and got designated for assignment. By getting cash here, Detroit manages to at least salvage something from their association with Anderson, who cost them pitcher Rudy Darrow in the trade with the Braves.
