NATS GET PERRY FOR BALESTER

The Washington Nationals acquired pitcher Ryan Perry from the Detroit Tigers for pitcher Collin Balester.

What does it give the Washington Nationals
This was a straight swap of good arms who may have needed a change of scenery. Perry could emerge as a quality reliever in Washington, who already have Drew Storen, Tyler Clippard and Henry Rodriguez ahead of him as right-handed short relievers. Perry may flourish in the NL.

What does it give the Detroit Tigers
Balester was a full-time reliever for the first time in 2011, so he may settle into the role further as a member of the Tigers in 2012. He, like Perry, has a live arm, so Detroit may be the best destination for him to maximize his upside. Comerica Park's confines should also help Balester.
