RANGERS SWAP FOR STAIRS

The Texas Rangers acquired outfielder Matt Stairs from the Kansas City Royals for minor-league pitcher Joselo Diaz.

What does it give the Texas Rangers
Still looking to bulk up on hitting depth after the acquisition of Carlos Lee earlier in the week, the Rangers landed a good professional hitter in Stairs. Even at 38, Stairs is a guy who can get the job done when you need him. Lacking overwhelming power, he probably won't play every day in Texas (nor did he in K.C.) but he'll give them a left-handed DH option, plus an extra glove capable of playing the outfield corners or first base.

What does it give the Kansas City Royals
The Royals continue to make moves to stock up on young pitching. At 26, Diaz is passing prospect territory, but still has a pretty good track record. His combination of blazing heat and a good change-up has made him very effective as a reliever over the past couple of years and if he can take that to the big leagues in the near future, the Royals have done a very good job here.
