DODGERS ADD VET PODSEDNIK
The Los Angeles Dodgers acquired Scott Podsednik from the Kansas City Royals for Lucas May and Elisaul Pimentel.
What does it give the Los Angeles Dodgers
A seasoned veteran, Podsednik will bring his speed game to Los Angeles, who has been without outfielders Manny Ramirez and Reed Johnson of late, both on the DL. Still only 34, Podsednik has seen more action in left recently in his career, but can roam at all three outfield positions. He was enjoying a solid season in K.C. at the time of the trade, having stolen 30 bases to go along with a .310 batting average.
What does it give the Kansas City Royals
Once a shortstop now a catcher, May brings a solid bat to his game, and the Royals think they may be able to develop it even further with time. Moreover, the club feels that May displays the type of budding leadership skills their organization needs. In Triple-A thus far this season, he smacked 11 homers and collected 45 RBIs. For his part, Pimetel, 22, is still in A-ball (Great Lakes) but has been progressing well. Trading Podsednik also makes way for still-promising Alex Gordon to take over in his new left field position.
